Dinosaurus adalah hewan purba dari klad Dinosauria yang pertama kali muncul di periode Trias atau sekitar 230 juta tahun yang lalu.

Jenis-jenis dinosaurus ditentukan dari spesies yang masih hidup dan melalui sisa-sisa fosil. Sebagian besar herbivora dan selebihnya adalah karnivora.

Dinosaurus memiliki arti “kadal yang mengerikan”, walaupun sebenarnya dinosaurus bukanlah spesies kadal. Sebaliknya, dinosaurus termasuk dalam kelompok reptil yang terpisah.
